Hi there, thank you for visiting my website and home to Jordie and Butch. Here is a small part of the history of Jordie and Butch.
The idea for the Jordie and Butch series has been comfortably at home in my mind for many years. Early on when I met Butch, a hearing impaired Boxer, I came to realize that most people are unsure how to act around anyone, people or dogs, who have a disability.
This uncomfortableness was very apparent in my own classrooms. During the 30 years of teaching, I have had the opportunity to work with and teach children with disabilities. Oh, how I learned so much.
Adventures of Jordie and Butch (series)
Jordie and Butch
What better way of introducing young children to the world of disabled people than through fun-loving dogs. The series, The Adventures of Jordie and Butch, accomplishes just that. This multi-booked children's series helps young children to become comfortable and understand others who have disabilities.
Each book in the series highlights the diversity of disabilities young children may experience with fellow classmates or friends. From Butch being deaf to Bruce living with asthma, children will learn that people (dogs) with disabilities are not much different than themselves.
